Autoimmune Hepatitis

This occurs when the immune system attacks causes inflammation by attacking the liver's cells. Autoimmune hepatitis can lead to cirrhosis and eventually to liver failure if left untreated.

Symptoms can include general tiredness, abdominal pains, joint aches, and yellowing of the skin (jaundice). If you experience any of these symptoms you must consult your GP immediately.

After full analysis of medical history, diagnosis will be confirmed by a blood test and liver biopsy.

Treatment involves medication to suppress the immune system and also to reduce inflammation. Treatment can eventually be stopped by the disease will often return over time. For these people a low dose of medication could be continued to control your symptoms.
